Roundabout projects in our Waugh Town Center

Joint project between ALDOT and Town of Pike Road

As part of a continued commitment to improving traffic safety and efficiency, two new roundabouts are under construction in the Waugh Town Center area of Pike Road. This project is a collaborative effort between the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the Town of Pike Road, aimed at enhancing traffic flow and reducing accidents at two key intersections along U.S. Highway 80—one at Marler Road and the other at State Route 126 (SR‑126).

Construction began in October 2024, with CB&A Construction LLC as the lead contractor for the $4.9 million initiative. These modern roundabouts are designed to replace traditional intersections, significantly reducing the likelihood of high-impact collisions while maintaining steady traffic movement through one of the town’s busiest corridors.

Once complete—anticipated by spring 2026—the roundabouts will improve safety and support future growth in the Waugh Town Center area by offering a more efficient and visually appealing traffic solution.

FAQ's

Where are these going?

As part of our broader traffic flow and safety improvement plan in the Waugh Town Center area, three strategic roundabouts are planned:

  • At the intersection of Marler Road & US 80

  • At the intersection of SR 126 & US 80

  • Opposite side of Exit 16 (I‑85/Waugh), as part of a future, separate phase.

This phased approach allows us to plan construction around current needs and future growth while aligning with ALDOT’s coordinated vision for safer, more efficient travel through our rapidly growing community.

Each roundabout is part of a carefully coordinated infrastructure improvement plan, with construction expected to take approximately 18 months from start to finish. This timeline allows for thoughtful planning, utility relocation, and phased construction that minimizes disruption while delivering long-term benefits. The Town of Pike Road and its partners are committed to keeping residents informed throughout the process, ensuring the plan stays on track and delivers safer, more efficient travel for years to come.

This project is a vital part of our long-term transportation plan to support growth and improve daily life in the Waugh area. By introducing strategically placed roundabouts, the plan aims to significantly reduce congestion, especially during peak travel times around schools, neighborhoods, and high-traffic commercial areas. These improvements will help alleviate bottlenecks, create smoother and safer traffic flow, and make it easier for residents, visitors, and emergency services to navigate the area efficiently. It’s a smart investment in both present needs and Pike Road’s future development.
