Originally constructed as a municipal building intended to serve both the students of the Pike Road School System and the broader Pike Road community, the Multipurpose Athletic Facility located on the Georgia Washington Campus has evolved into a dedicated space for athletic development. Though technically designed for cheerleading and wrestling programs—each with designated spaces and equipment—the building now serves more broadly as an athletic facility.
The Town of Pike Road retains ownership of both the building and the land it occupies. As a municipal property, the town is responsible for all operational costs and maintenance. While the facility is not currently open to the public, it was designed with future accessibility in mind, including a separate entrance off Gibbs Road should public use be permitted down the line.
The facility was initially envisioned as part of a larger civic initiative but has since been administratively separated from the proposed third building in the Arts District (Phase 3), allowing each project to develop according to its own timeline and purpose.
FAQ's
Is it open to the public?
The multipurpose athletic facility is a cornerstone in Pike Road’s strategic plan to support student athletics—it’s not open to general public bookings. Its primary purpose is to serve Pike Road Schools, providing dedicated practice areas and resources for athletic programs. This facility is part of the broader plan to enhance school sports infrastructure with the new high school, ensuring our student-athletes have high-quality facilities tailored to their needs.
However, this facility is also a key element of the town’s long-term athletic plan. Centralizing athletic support in one facility helps streamline game and practice planning, scheduling, and resource allocation for a range of school sports.
